Over 41% of the population in India is aged 18 or younger. Identifying the highly able children in this population and nurturing them is an opportunity to lift millions into prosperity, through economic progress and a better quality of life. The Highly Able Children Program (HACP) is a step towards this goal – harnessing India’s ‘Genius Dividend’.
Started in July 2020, the HACP is a collaboration between Pravaha, Mytrah Foundation, Agastya International Foundation and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Tirupati. Entirely online, it brings together over 350 highly able children from 9th to 12th grades. The program focuses on exposing them to essential 21st-century skills like problem-solving, and critical and lateral thinking, through an interdisciplinary approach.
The program includes two custom designed digital simulation team games themed on COVID-19. The program also features talks from eminent personalities - Prof. Hayagreeva Rao, Atholl McBean Professor of Organizational Behavior and Human Resources at Stanford Graduate School of Business, Padma Bhushan Dr.V.S.Ramamurthy, NIAS, and Prof. Balaram, IISc are amongst the people who have addressed the children.
